The ultimate guide to electric scooters
Powered electric scooters are widely used as people start to realize the destructive effects of using fossil fuel. Powered electric scooters are starting to replace the conventional motorcycle in many parts of the world.
As the quality of electric scooters varies greatly, you probably want to learn to notice important things when it comes to choosing an electric scooter. This post could help you on definitive a well quality electric scooters by following a thorough on QC inspection checklist before allowing the electric scooter manufactures to ship your electric scooters.
Types of electric scooter for adults you can find are:
Foldable Electric Scooters
An ideal foldable electric scooter offers an affordable and reliable solution especially at your daily commutes involve public transport e.g.: buses, underground, and trains. Is also brings convenient on their compact size, these don’t require you to hassle for a parking lot for hours on end. When you are not riding it, simply fold it and store it pretty much anywhere.
Off-road Electric Scooters
As demand and diversity for the use of Electric scooters have grown massively in popularity in recent years which leading the electric scooter become more powerful, more stable, and the frames more robust, it means that some electric scooters can even handle off-roading.
Of course, the off-road electric scooter will not manage the challenging trails that electric mountain bikes can. But this might be an excellent choice for those who want some fun in the woods and more extreme trails.
Fat tire Electric Scooters
Fat tires are part of bikes and they have now made their way to electric scooters. Simple physics tells us fat tire is just a scooter that has much wider tires. It comes with a seat and provides enormous comfort. Fat tires electric scooters have created a niche because of their durability and ease of use on uneven terrain.
The wider width of the tires allows for better ground coverage and increases the rubber-to-ground contact, it also in combination with a suspension thus providing higher traction. This means that stability is automatically improved, as the grip. They offer sufficient grip even on wet surfaces encountered soon after riding out in the rain.
Electric Kick Scooter is one of the most practical, efficient and the fastest way of commuting from point A to point B. However, it’s also much more than that. Electric kick scooter provides an enormous amount of fun and pleasure while you are riding it.
1. Main components of electric scooter
To purchase the right electric kick scooter for adults there are some key electric scooter components to get to know. All these factors will tell if the scooter’s performance is great or not:
The battery is your electric scooter’s “fuel tank.” It stores the energy that is consumed by the DC motor, lights, controller, and other electric scooter accessories.
First of all, most of the e-scooters use batteries pack which is made of many individual cells and electronics called a battery management system in order to keeps it operating safely. In this condition, you’ll need to treat your battery like the powerful and intricate piece of technology that it is.
Bigger batteries pack has more capacity, measured in watt-hours, and will let an electric scooter travel further. Indeed, it also increases the size and weight of the scooter cause less portable. Additionally, batteries are one of the most expensive components of the scooter and overall cost increases accordingly.
A typical budget scooter will have a capacity of around 250wh while a monster scooter can have up to capacities of almost 3000wh.
Tires support you traction to accelerate or brake in emergency satiation. Tires come in basically two types: pneumatic (air-filled) and airless. Airless tires do not perform as well as pneumatic tires. There are a few varieties of airless tires and these include: honeycomb, polymer-filled, and solid.
Tires can directly influence ride quality, traction, range, and braking performance of electric kick scooter. For off-road travelers, wider tires are excellent. There are also standard tires with flat or rounded edges; any of these will do for less bumpy roads. In general, tires with stronger material will last long, so you might want to invest in more expensive yet more durable tires to save on maintenance fees.
Pneumatic tires give better ride quality even without suspension. Also, their supple rubber performs much better in adverse road conditions. If you are looking for an electric scooter that will go the distance in both the figurative & literal sense, then you should choose a model with large 8” tires (preferably inflatable), suspension.
The speed controller sends capacity to the engine dependent on quickening agent input. They typically look like rectangular metal cans with many wires coming out of them. The metal enclosure serves as a heat sync. The controller receives inputs from the accelerator and (electronic) brake controls and translates that into a current that is sent to the motor.
A quality braking system, such as the disc brake is essential for staying safe and in control while riding an electric scooter. That’s why you need to get the highest quality of brakes as much as possible. You can either opt for hydraulic disc brakes or mechanic disc brakes.
Mechanical brake systems are those that rely on a physical mechanism to slow the scooter down and are: disc, drum, and foot brakes.
Electronic braking systems rely on using the motor itself for braking and include strictly electronic and regenerative braking systems.
Typically mechanical braking systems will offer much stronger braking than electronic systems. However, electronic systems benefit from not requiring any periodic adjustments or maintenance.
Many scooters will have a combination of both electronic and mechanical braking systems. For safety reasons, we recommend scooters that have at least two braking systems in case one fails.
There are two types of motors used in electric scooters: brushless direct current motors (BLDC) and brushed DC motors. BLDC is based on newer technology that performs better than brushed DC motors. They tend to run quieter and are less prone to overheating. Most quality electric scooters for adults will have a BLDC motor.
Nearly all electric scooters have a motor power rating that is given in units of watts. A motor with high wattage will be able to consume a lot of energy in a short amount of time. The more energy a motor consumes the more mechanical power it will produce. A higher motor watt rating, in general, means the motor will accelerate more quickly, carry more rider weight, and climb steep hills.
Adult electric scooters have hub motors built into one while more powerful ones will have two. The powerhouse Wide Wheel pictured above has dual 500-watt motors. But, you don’t have to buy one with the greatest engine power.
Of course, most electric scooters come with BLDC motors. If you are considering what kind of driving you’re going to do. Are you commuting on a busy street? Or are you into off-road driving? It is useful to use motor power (or motor wattage) to approximately compare the performance of different scooters. More power should give you better acceleration, faster top speed, and better hill climbing ability.
The suspension of the electric scooter, like that on motor vehicle or bicycle, helps to improve the ride quality and damping bumps in the road.
There are three main types of suspension systems that are typically found on electric scooters: spring, hydraulic or air piston, and rubber suspension. Scooters with the best suspension will have some combination of spring and piston — a combination called coil-over-hydraulic or coil-over-air.
Many scooters forgo suspension in favor of large pneumatic tires that provide damping effects. Large pneumatic tires can offer a better form of suspension that cheap spring suspensions.
An influential safety organization has raised serious doubts about the safety of electric scooters on public roads and pavements. To wear safety equipment can prevent accidents and mitigate injuries.
Safety equipment including a helmet is an absolute necessity when riding the electric scooter at any speed. Depending on the speed and type of riding conditions that you experience, you may need more or less equipment.
Here are some key accessories we recommend
- Helmet: your electric scooter will be going as fast as a bicycle, so we strongly recommend wearing a helmet at all times.
- Lock: your electric scooter is a valuable item and having a small portable lock will ensure its safety.
- Phone holder: allows you to concentrate on riding and the roads – so you’re not holding your phone. Also, very useful tool if you need to use maps!
- Puncture protection fluid: if you have air-filled tires it is worth using puncture protection fluid to reduce risk of punctures.
- Lights: extra lights can be attached to your e-scooter for safer night riding and visibility.
Here also provide you with few pieces of advices on how to use e-scooters safely:
- Once you start your trip, give the brake a tight squeeze to ensure it’s working properly.
- Comply with any scooter audible or visual warnings to slow or adjust your speed.
- Ride defensively: wear a helmet and reflective or bright clothing, respect the right of way, and don’t ever ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and always ride in bike lanes when available.
- Ride smart: follow the rules of the road, keep both hands on the handlebars, don’t use your mobile device while riding and avoid wearing headphones.
As mentioned above, there are a lot of models in the market today. So, expect to see scooters with different shapes and sizes. When buying a scooter, picking the right dimensions for your body type is crucial when you want overall comfort. There are three considerations that you should include; these are height, standing deck area, and portability.
First, check if its height is right for you. This means that you should see if the handlebars are perfect for your height and arms – not too high or not too low for you. In this way, you can comfortably navigate on your scooter when driving.
- Standing Deck Area
Next, see if the standing area is just right for you. Some scooters have slender bases while others have wider ones. Pick a scooter that’s right for your feet size or one that you personally prefer. But, the general rule is that the more room, the better it is.
Also, consider its portability. Do prefer light ones or bulkier scooters? This depends on your preference and situation. If you want to carry around your scooter, then a lighter one is ideal. When you want a portable scooter, you should pick the ones with smaller dimensions. The general rule is – the more powerful scooter is, the more weight it has. So simple For instance scooters for performing tricks, trick scooters (aka stunt scooters) are very small and light, unlike fast electric scooters which have much powerful motor.
Performance is a paramount aspect when deciding to splash the cash for a new electric scooter. However, before deciding which level of performance is the right choice for you, a few concepts must be discussed, such as Range and hill tests. Let’s take them one at a time.
The main concern that people have when deciding if they will or won’t get an electric scooter is the range or, simply put: how far can they travel on an electric scooter?
While the answer depends on the model, battery, speed, weather, rider’s weight, and type of terrain you are riding on, you can travel between 6 and 25 miles on an average electric scooter.
Here are someKey Reasons for Electric Scooter Range Change:
- Weight / Load – if you weigh more, have a passenger, have heavy baggage
- Terrain – if your trip is predominantly grass or sand
- Gradient – if your trip has a lot of uphill especially long steep ones
- Stop / Start – If you stop and start frequently – big drain
- Heavy Throttle – If you are heavy on the throttle especially when accelerating from stationary
After range, the ability to climb hills is one of the most important and sought-after features in an electric scooter. Owners that heavily rely on their scooters for transport and commute often need to go uphill, and the scooter’s climbing powers are essential for them.
A common number of electric scooter’s hill climb thrown around is 23.4 degrees as the average of the climbing angle of electric scooters. Most of them performed an average climb angle of electric scooters is between 20 and 25 degrees.
Meaning, if your scooter has a climb angle of 35 degrees, it can already handle almost every slope out there.
By this definition, any scooter that has a climb angle higher than 35 degrees is a great climbing scooter. With the handful of models that claim to have climb angles of 40 degrees or above, you will likely have absolutely no issue going uphill 99% of the time.
It’s also safe to say that any scooter that has a climb angle below 15 degrees will likely cause you trouble on many hills.
When it’s all set and done, what really matters? You want to be comfortable while riding your scooter. It’s got to feel right. That’s why at Fluid Free Ride, we look for the best designs available depending on your usage occasion like Wide Wheel, Mosquito and more.
One thing to consider is the type of tires and the suspension. Some are airless and others are more traditional. For the last few years, there has been crazy progress on the types of tires in the market. Michelin created an airless tire that has been all over the news. What are the advantages? You don’t have to worry about flats and it has a better stability. Airless might be a great option for you.
Make sure to check for the tire sizes and front/rear suspension. You will want suspension if you use solid airless tires since all these things will affect your ride. But we both know the best way to really get the feel for it… test drive. Try to go out and ride a friend’s scooter or even watch YouTube video reviews. The best part about buying online is the reviews and experiences you get from real drivers (more on that later).
Purchasing an electric scooter can be a formidable challenge — there is an overwhelming number of choices, a quality electric scooter is from $500 and can cost upwards of $2,000. Throwing a wrench into the matters are numerous dubious “review” sites and reviewers that have never touched a scooter in their life.
Cost: In addition to the advertised retail price of your chosen e-scooter, there are a number of cost factors to consider:
- Finance available: finance options may make your e-scooter of choice more affordable by spreading the payments across a period of time.
- Import duty: a few companies are currently quoting very low prices for electric scooters, but they are not being transparent with the total costs. There have been cases where the seemingly cheap e-scooter has gotten stuck in UK customs and the customer has had to pay around 30% of the purchase cost (in VAT and import Tax) before receiving their product.
- Postage: some reputable retailers offer free delivery, but this is not always the case and postage can be very expensive. Postage is not always listed on product pages, be sure to check carefully!

7. Riding conditions
A scooter is a great way for commuters to bridge the gap where public transit ends and the last-mile begin.
However, Weather, though, can cause an issue, and many scooter riders wonder if riding in the rain or the snow is even possible. We’re here to tell you that, yes, you can absolutely ride your scooter, even if weather conditions aren’t perfect, but there are some considerations you’ll want to make to stay safe.
Here are some tips:
- When it’s raining or snowing, the visibility of those you share the pavement with is reduced, which could be hazardous. You’ll want to take every measure to protect yourself, which means making sure your scooter is equipped with proper safety gear that promotes visibility. Make sure to use an LED headlight and reflectors when available. You might also consider wearing bright or reflective gear so that other vehicles and riders might be able to see you better.
- Brakes are of utmost importance in perfect riding conditions, which means they’re indispensable when riding in the rain or the snow. You want the breaks on your foldable scooter to be in good working condition and able to stop quickly. Again though, Rain and snow create slick streets, which mean traction could be compromised. So you’ll want to make sure you adapt your riding speed to the weather conditions at hand.
Commuting by electric scooter is all part of the new trend in micromobility that solves the so-called last mile problem. The last mile problem refers to the last leg of a trip — whether it is walking from the bus station to your office or exiting a freeway in a car to go to a specific destination.
Paradoxically, the leg of a trip tends to be the slowest and most difficult despite being the shortest. This is because public transit systems and roadways are all optimized for connecting big population centers separated by larger distances. Think about it — multilane highways connect major cities separate by tens or hundreds of miles. At average freeway speeds, you can go 60 miles in an hour or about a mile a minute.
However, once you’ve exited the freeway, your last mile or so could take 15 minutes or more! This is where electric scooters of micro-mobility come into play. They make travelling the last mile of your trip faster, easier, and more environmentally friendly.
If you have to commute just a few miles to work or have to walk from a bus stop or transit center, then an electric scooter is the perfect option for you.
The law on using kick scooters on the pavement is currently unclear. Swiftly Scooters have looked at some of the issues in-depth and have concluded that it is legal to use them on the pavement. Metro.co.uk contacted the Department for Transport about this issue and clarity. A representative said: ‘There is no legal precedence. This is a matter for the courts. We are not aware of any case law on unamortized scooters.’ This effectively means that until a case is brought before the courts, the law doesn’t currently say whether it’s legal or illegal.
10. Repair and Maintenance
Like a car or a boat or a jet ski you need to look after your Electric Scooter and the best way to do this is to keep up with regular services. More importantly, do checking the tires regularly if the scooter has pneumatic (air-filled) tires. If you are looking for repair, maintenance or upgrade information, check out our detailed guides for different electric scooters (more are being added all the time).
Lastly, see if the scooter brand or store offers a warranty. In most cases, there are warranties offered, but there are certain warranties with amazing coverage. So, pick the ones that have a reasonable rate and an amazing warranty inclusion.
Hopefully, you made up your mind and have a clearer picture of what types of electric scooters you like.
We expect that this list of types covers all needs and demands that most people may have. Electric kick scooter group is huge, and it was a pleasure to introduce you to the basics.
Choosing the right electric scooter would still depend on your preferences. Therefore, brace yourself and concentrate on this journey before your adventure on an electric scooter.

Ancheer Folding Electric Bike (250 W)
The best folding e-bike, with a ton of extras for value
Ancheer has grown to become a dominant force in the E-biking industry.
While rivals like Gaint and Trek carved out their spot as the preferred manufacturers for big ticket ebikes (think $3000+ for e-bikes like the Trek Powefly 5+), they left a big hole in the budget e-biking market.
Over the last 5 years, Ancheer as siezed this opportunity and once again came out with an affordable, high quality winner with their Folding Moutain Bike.
It sports a lightweight aluminum frame, shock absorbers on the front fork, as well as on the rear frame, and a 250 W motor which makes the bike street legal in both the US and EU.
The 36V 8AH battery will get you 15 miles (25 km) if you just let the engine do all the work, and around 30 miles (50 km) with full pedal assist.
As with any bike worth it salt, it comes with a Shimano pro transmission system, Ancheer opted to go for the 21 speed system, which we considered to be overkill for an e-bike, but whatever, more gears never hurt nobody!
PORTABLE ELECTRIC MINI BIKE
This is a stylish electric tricycle with a high-qualitya luminum frame in a lightweight design. As an electric mini bike for adults, it can travel a maximum of 20km/h and its dashboard displays the speed and other details.
For night safety, this electric scooter has front and rear lamps. An intelligent app detects cycling data and controls speed.

Sondors Fold X
Elegant Frame With Integrated Battery
The Sondors Fold X is a striking e-folder with 4-inch-wide tires on 20-inch wheels and an elegantly styled forged-aluminum frame. Integrated into the frame is a big 672 watt-hour battery, which powers a 500-watt hub motor. This gives the Fold-X up to 60 miles of range (claimed). A seven-speed drivetrain provides gearing for varied terrain, and there’s a throttle to let you zip along pedal-free. Available accessories include a suspension fork, a suspension seatpost, a color LCD screen, and a spare battery.
small but capable folding electric bike
Small but capable Swagtron EB-5. The EB-5 has gained popularity as an e-bike for children and teens from a company named Swagtron. It packs an impressive 250-watt motor, with this bicycle can travel on slopes up to 25° with incredible ease. The maximum speed of this bicycle is 15 mph or 25 km/h.
The EB-5 comes equipped with a removable lithium ion battery that will last you around 26 km (15.5 miles). As with a number of other electric bicycles, you can opt to pedal manually, use the engine without pedaling, or combine the two using pedal assist mode.
This bike includes 3-inch tires that are mounted to 14-inch rims, which gives your children maximum grip and a smooth ride.
Finally, although the bike may look small, it’s not just intended for adults, don’t just take my word for it though, have a look at the max rated weight of the bike…
Rad Power RadMini
Goes Where Others Won’t
This RadMini hits the trifecta of weird but lovable bike niches: It’s an electric folding fat bike. On 20-inch by 4-inch tires, it can go farther and faster on terrain other e-bikes can’t get to, but it also folds up small enough to fit in your trunk or office when not in use. Powered by a 750W (peak) Bafang geared hub motor, in addition to your pedaling with a 7-speed Shimano Tourney drivetrain, the bike has about a 25- to 45-mile range and a max speed of 20mph. A front suspension fork with 60mm of travel smooths out dirt roads and other rough terrain and Tektro mechanical disc brakes lend confident stopping power. The bike weighs 64 pounds, so you probably don’t want to ride it too far without one of the five levels of pedal-assist. But considering the bike comes with a sturdy rear rack that can hold up to 40 pounds with the option of adding a front rack, this bike could be an incredible asset for anyone looking to replace their car commute with a bicycle—especially down country gravel roads.
Another great folding electric bikeX
The Gocycle GX is a folding electric bike test is even more fun to ride than the Brompton and feels more sturdy. The flip side of that is that it doesn’t fold up anywhere near a neatly as the Brompton although it does at least fold enough, and sufficiently quickly, to legally take it on public transport. Although people may tut at you.
With three gears, variable assistance – you can change when and to what extent it kicks in via Gocycle’s handy app, which also lets your phone serve as a basic bike computer – and small-ish but chunky, sporty wheels, the GX is just a blast to ride. Gocycle’s power delivery algorithms and torque sensors have been tweaked by former F1 engineers, so the ride is one of the smoothest around. It’s nippy, manouevrable and fun, and it also feels a little more like a ‘proper bike’ than the Brompton despite the similarly small wheels.
Lighting is taken care of via a super bright front LED lightbar and rear lamp that draw power from the main battery system, so you don’t have to rummage around for AAA batteries or remember to plug them into a USB cable to charge.
FUROSYSTEMS FURO X
A stunning, lightweight folding ebike
By their nature, ebikes are a lot heavier than their non-motorised brethren and this is something to consider if you have a flight of stairs to climb, be it at home or on public transport. Well here comes a truly well-specced folding model that weighs ‘only’ 15kg – okay that is still a little nit hefty – replete with exterior-mounted 36v Tesla-spec battery, 500w BAFANG rear hub motor, disc brakes fore and aft, mudguards, rear luggage rack, side-stand and LED lighting system with integrated indicators. Given the plethora of extras, we’re frankly gobsmacked its London-based designers managed to keep the weight so low.
The Furo X is also equipped with an aerospace-grade carbon fibre frame, 20-inch wheels for faster travel and a 9-speed Shimano derailleur for a wide variety of inclines. But it’s that 500w powerhouse motor that you’ll come to love the most. As is the case with all ebikes in the UK, the motor’s assistance is restricted to 15.5mph but because the bike’s lighter than most of its competitors, it doesn’t feel like you’re riding through treacle when the motor disengages or the battery runs flat.
The handlebar-mounted computer display, meanwhile, provides five pedal-assist power levels which can be changed on the hoof by tapping up and down on the rubber keys. In a nutshell, the higher the power assist, the longer the motor will run until it cuts out at the prerequisite 15.5mph. It has to be said that the motor itself kicks in pretty spritely as soon as the sensor detects optimum pressure on the pedals, so be mindful when starting off or doing a U-turn and perhaps have your fingers covering the brakes lest you lose control.
Given it’s fitted with 20-inch wheels, the Furo X doesn’t fold into as tidy a package as the Brompton (few do) but the process is really simple and when folded it’s easily compact enough to take on a train without causing a fuss. The triangular seat post is especially worth a mention because it makes it really easy to raise and lower the saddle without having to straighten it.
Well that’s the main tech out of the way, so what’s it like to ride? In two words, bloody fantastic. It handles superbly well at any speed and will zip up hill and down dale for up to 35 miles on a single charge. Its handlebar assembly can also be adjusted to suit a wide variety of rider heights.
If you hanker after a folding ebike with bigger wheels than the Brompton but can’t stretch the budget to GoCycle’s top-dog GX then absolutely put this superbly designed entry on the shopping list. You won’t be disappointed.
Jetson Metro Folding Electric Bike
An Affordable Folding Ebike
Ebikes are expensive, and we did review the Jetson Metro (6/10, WIRED Review), which rings in at under a grand. It has many of the bells and whistles that you need for a commuter ebike, like a 250-watt motor hidden in the crossbar, around 40 miles of range, three levels of pedal assist, a throttle, and a horn. However, in just a week of testing, I chipped off a part of the clamp that hooks the bike together, which doesn’t bode well for the bike’s longevity over the long haul.
Fat Tire Folding Electric Bike
The last model on this list is a ComfyGo foldable electric bike. This does not mean it offers less valuable properties than any other folding electric bike on this list. There are quite a few distinctive features that make this e-bike a great choice.
This model can withstand an amazing 330 pounds of weight, which is the highest point on this list. It is also equipped with fat on-road monster fat tires that feature 26 inches in diameter, making it a perfect choice for muddy and snowy trails.
The ComfyGo folding electric bike will deliver great performance thanks to its 500-watt DC brushless hub motor powered by a removable 48V lithium-ion battery. This bike can run up steep hills with ease since the powerful motor provides more than enough boost.
You will travel at a speed of 20 mph or 32 km/h for about 50 km (30 miles) with a fully charged battery. Once the battery runs out of juice, you can either remove it or leave it on the bike during the charging process. It will take about 6 hours to get the battery back in full power, and you can repeat this process for approximately 800 times until your ride will need a new battery.
This e-bike is designed for both city ride as well as tackling muddy paths, rocky trails, and terrain covered with heavy snow and sand. It adjusts itself with ease to all those types of terrain thanks to the great sturdy and lightweight build. The e-bike sports alloy foldable frame that can easily fit any car trunk. The four-inch-wide fat on-road tires come conjoined with an aluminum suspension fork and Dual Tektro disc brakes, providing a safe ride no matter which route you choose to conquer.
The leading role in overcoming hard terrains belongs to the amazing 7-speed Shimano transmission system well known for its smoothly changing between gears, which is one of the main reasons why it becomes so wildly popular among e-bikers.
The LCD will let you change between 5 levels of PAS (pedal assist), keep track of the battery status, speed, and distance you traveled. If you prefer late night city rides, this model is great for you since it comes with a rear cat eye so the other traffic participants can spot you on time.
In the end, no matter which version you choose to get, you will get that feeling of superiority as you cruise up a hill with the wind in your hair, looking disdainfully at the poor regular bikers sweating it out. Enjoy your ride.

With most people still being lockdown at home as much as possible and public transit systems everywhere operating on limited routes and schedules, electric scooters are becoming a common sight in many cities around the world. Having an electric scooter might make sense for essential short-distance to commute to work and travel.
Electrification is coming! The little rides have proven capable to be a low risk, low cost, low impact of personal transport for adults, in particular in urban areas. So, what is the best electric scooter for adults to purchase?
We now have formulated our own list of different brands and models of top 8 electric scooters for adults available as of August 2020.
1. Xiaomi M365 – The best electric scooter overall
Xiaomi M365 is probably the most popular electric scooter globally. It can be seen on the streets all around the world, it’s zooming up and down all major cities in Europe and it became very well known in the US. The Xiaomi M365 is a good choice, there’s no question about it, as it has a solid motor and battery, good speed and long-range. In general aesthetic terms, it is fairly lightweight with simple exterior design on its black body and red hints adding to the personality. All these factors leading Xiaomi M365 to achieve the world’s #1 Best electric scooter under $500. It is an urban vehicle with style.
Power & Range
M365 features a 250W brushless front hub motor that can obtain a burst of 500W, which is enough to get you to the top speed of 16.7 mph and get you up a 14-degree hill. This scooter is a safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly option for short-distance travel or daily commute, for an excellent price.
Between the handlebars is a display which tells you your speed, or the battery percent while you’re charging, as well as the speed mode you’re in. A button below the display turns the scooter on when you press it, toggles the headlight with a single press, changes speed mode with a double press, and turns the scooter off with a hold. These handlebars had good grip and felt comfortable to grip even when held tight for long periods or in the rain.
Xiaomi M365 is perfect for commuting or running your daily errands. This scooter can completely replace your bike to transport you around town. It is, however, not an ideal solution for heavier riders, and it is definitely NOT for kids.
Design & Build
Clean, minimalist lines with contrasting details in red. The folding mechanism is clever and unique. The scooter’s folding clamp sits on its headset instead of the deck joint, to reinforce the supporting frame’s duration and security. The folding mechanism is quick and easy to use. To tighten, you pull up on a metal lever then rotate a safety mechanism that prevents the latch from accidentally being pulled down during riding.
At 27 pounds it is not a lightweight electric scooter that everyone will be able to easily handle, but it is manageable. The scooter is 99% assembled out-of-the-box; all you need to do is attach 4 screws with a hex key (included in the box) and it’s ready to use. Every part of the scooter is well-planned and everything is perfectly put together. Besides being made of aviation-grade aluminum, the quality of the build reflects in all the details – sturdy and clean welding, high-quality plastic, all the wiring nicely coated and tucked in. What surprised us the most is the quality of the rubber parts, as this is where many other scooters are lacking. The anti-skid pad on the deck, as well as anti-slip rubber grip on the handlebars, is nice to touch, and it looks very durable.
Brakes & Safety
Xiaomi M365 has got a disc brake on the rear wheel for added braking power and an electronic regenerative brake in the front. The rear brake is completely mechanical, and there is a good chance you will need to adjust it at some point, or even right out-of-the-box. Luckily, this is not rocket science and there are plenty of instructions on how to do it all over the internet.
The bell trigger is cleverly designed to hook the buckle on the rear mudguard for folding usage. The front wheel is outfitted with an electric brake and power recovery system, whiles the rear one with a disc brakes. Its main body employs a styling element of a track shape in neutral colours
Simply put, it’s a solid all-around scooter that is the right one for a lot of adults.

Positives & Negatives
Excellent 12-month warranty Great range, speed, and Phenomenal lights Bluetooth-enabled for ride telemetry Lacks information on the front display Lacks suspension for rough roads
2. Ninebot MAX – The longest range Electric KickScooter
Ninebot MAX is the world’s most reliable electric scooter comes with the longest range powered by Segway. Max was a built-in charger and the one-step folding system allows you to always be on the go.
Regenerative Brake for Power Recycle
Ninebot Max has 3 modes which are energy-saving mode, Standard mode and Sport mode. The innovative regenerative brake system turns Ninebot Kick Scooter MAX into an electric vehicle equipped with electricity and recycled energy from riding. Energy will be gathered from regenerative braking and distributed when you need a boost.
The rear-wheel power also offers you better acceleration, stability, and braking power. In our acceleration tests, the Max reached 15mph in5.4 seconds, faster than the original M365 (6.3 seconds). For context, this is similar or slightly faster to scooter-sharing companies that you might have used. The dual braking system, front-wheel mechanical drum brake, and back shell regenerative electric brake. Simultaneous dual brake provides the greatest stability and steer-ability.
Overall, build quality is excellent. The scooter is more substantial and feels like a serious commuting machine compared to some other scooters.
The frame of the Ninebot Max is very nearly identical to the Xiaomi M365, but super sized, making it more durable. Segway Ninebot has said that this scooter was designed specifically for the sharing market in mind. This should make it an exceptionally durable scooter for personal use.
The Ninebot Max has an IPX5 water-resistance rating, meaning that it can tolerate splashes but not full submersion. Practically-speaking, Max can be ridden home if you get caught in the rain. Though we don’t recommend riding in the rain, Max’s pneumatic tires perform surprisingly well on wet roads.
When the tires’ outer layers are punctured, the sealant within the tire is filling the holes automatically. The MAX tire can withstand multiple punctures (less than 6mm in diameter) without leaks, so you won’t experience the nightmare of replacing tires.
The scooter also has a DC converter built-in with a standard IEC 320 C5 “Mickey Mouse ears” power connector. Additionally, there is a traditional DC port that can be used with the included charger. This is cool because you don’t need to take a power-brick around with you, you can use relatively cheap and lightweight standard power cable for charging.
The Ninebot Max is an excellent scooter for those who love the design of the world-class M365 but want a more durable, longer-ranged scooter. The Max’s more powerful motor can propel heavier riders up steeper hills and at a faster clip.
Tested top speed: 18.7 mph Tested range: 40.4miles Weight: 41lbs Max rider weight: 220 lbs Water resistance: IP54 (splash)
Positives & Negatives
Energy recycled from regenerative braking Beefy construction with Great range Flat-resistant tubeless pneumatic tires Lacks zippy acceleration Too heavy to be ultra-portable
3. ZERO 9 – The Best High-SpeedElectric Scooter
The ZERO 9 (ZX9) is a powerful electric kick scooter for adult as it is comfortable to ride. It comes with higher power output, air tires front and rear, and double brakes drum brakes and front disc brake, with a range of up to 45km per charge. This ZERO 9 is a good choice for long-range commutes or leisure rides, it is also suitable for riders who need to go the distance but still want something compact yet comfortable. It is a solid scooter built to be both enjoyable enough and durable enough for daily use.
The cockpit display LED is simple, providing speed, “gear,” odometer, and battery readout.
Brakes are operated by hand levers. The LCD speed display (right) has power and mode buttons, as well as an index finger throttle trigger. From this display, different “P-settings” can be adjusted to control regenerative braking strength and acceleration settings.
The hand position on the scooter is ample and excellent for balance. Furthermore, the folding handlebars help to keep this design compact for storing and portability.
The ZERO 9 features three mechanisms to reduce the size of the scooter, improve portability and compactness for storage.
The handlebars have a solid folding screw-type mechanism. This allows them to fold but feel very solid and strong when unfolded. We notice that on our test model, the right side would loosen up slightly after long rides. We’ve seen this before on other scooters with this mechanism. The whole scooter collapses easily via an anodized metallic tab and hinges mounted onto the scooter deck.
Finally, the adjustable stem also collapses. This allows the scooter to provide superior ergonomics to taller or shorter riders without sacrificing compactness.
he scooter has large pneumatic tires that are excellent for overcoming bumps that might down a scooter with smaller tires. They also cushion the ride.
Additionally, ZERO 9 has front and rear spring suspension. The suspension doesn’t offer a ton of travel but has a balance of stiffness/spring. The suspension is optimal for riding on paved roads, but it is good enough for light off-road use on hard-packed dirt roads. Combined, pneumatic tires and suspension make for a very comfortable and safe ride.
The scooter has both front and rear lighting. The ZERO also has a ridiculous amount of swag lighting. Running up the stem is a bright LED strip. On either side of the deck are LED strips, so-called “ground effects,” that light up the road Tron-style.
The lighting is sufficient for providing visibility to others on the road at night. However, both the headlight and tail light are mounted low and don’t project very far.
As always, we recommend extra lighting for safety, but this scooter is equipped for night riding if you forget additional light or it’s out of charge. We also recommend adding a rear, clip-on light placed high (e.g., on a backpack, jacket, or helmet).
Some people appeal against flats associated with pneumatic tires. The risk of flats is considerably outweighed by the significant benefits to safety and performance.
Overall, ZERO 9 is a solid, well-built scooter with a clean design. ZERO has been existence long enough that this scooter has gone through several iterations. The scooter just keeps obtaining better with time.
The heavy bolts and abundant stamped metal parts ensure durability. Altogether excellent build quality ends up making this scooter one of quietest — no annoying rattling, ultra-loud motor, or loosely coupled components.
The thing to note on the model we tested was part of the folding handlebars would loosen up slightly on long rides. We had to periodically re-tighten this, but it wasn’t a safety issue.
Whether you commute directly from home to work every day or work as a delivery rider, the ZERO 9 will guarantee you a comfortable ride throughout your long journey. The ZERO 9 will still be one of the best electric scooters you can buy. Its balanced nature makes this scooter the right one for a lot of people.

4. Glion Dolly: The Best Sturdy and Foldable Electric Scooter
Need an affordable ride around town that won’t break down? The Glion won’t take you too far, but it still makes a great companion for urban travel. Moreover, this commuter scooter doesn’t skimp on the Dolly’s construction as it built with airless tires. Their interior uses a honeycomb interior developed by the military, and you don’t have to concern yourself with pumping them.
It’s a sturdy scooter made from aircraft-grade, powder-coated aluminum which resists corrosion. The most unique construction feature on the Glion is how the scooter folds; it can stand up vertically and be pulled around like a rolling suitcase. With most electric scooters, you have to carry the full weight of it, but not so with Glion.
The scooter may get a bit noisy on rough roads. There is common rattling as well on bumpy rides. However, it requires very little maintenance. Wittily, it can be called as the German tank.
These features make the scooter one of the best when it comes to portability. Once it folds, it takes very little space. Also, there are ample measures for protection for the time when it is placed on the floor. For example, there is a nylon wrap in the middle of the handlebars.
The main safety features on the Glion Dolly are the light. It gets a very bright headlight that’s easily turned on with a red button and a built-in tail reflector. If you’re riding at night, cars and pedestrians will definitely notice you.

5. Gotrax Xr: The Best Price Electric Scooter for Adult
otrax Xr is absolutely an amazing value for the price and ticks all the boxes for features for adults who want to purchase an inexpensive foldable electric scooter. It is portability and a light-weightedness electric scooter for adult from $399 which is the best electric scooter under $400. With a price like this, renting a scooter will be the thing of the past.
Where many other electric scooters shroud all of their cables within the frames of the scooters themselves, the GoTrax XR Ultra’s brake cable is exposed and runs down the side of the front. In some ways, it reminded me of my bicycle
As the GoTrax’s battery is located in the down tube, the deck of the scooter is comparatively thin, cutting a sleeker profile which making the GoTrax easier to carry.
A large, angular piece of metal connects the down tube to the GoTrax’s deck, and a beefy red lever locks the GoTrax’s down tube in place when riding. On the rear fender is a small plastic tab that is supposed to lock the tube in place when the scooter is folded; on my review unit, it was slightly misaligned, so that the down tube did not stay locked when I tried to pick up the scooter and carry it.
On the right handlebar of the GoTrax is simple throttle control, while the left has the brake lever and a dinky bell. In the center is a circular LED panel that shows your speed and estimated battery life. A small red button beneath is used to turn the scooter on and off, turns on the headlight, and switch between first and second gear.
Battery and Charging
The GoTrax XR Ultra is powered by a 36-volts LG battery with a rating of 7.0 AH. This is a cool thing if you’re looking for a highly-capable battery that can bring you to reasonably distant destinations.
LG batteries are also recognized for being high-quality products in the market as they can hold charges longer than other batteries. They also degrade slower throughout their lifespan.
This means that you’ll have a more reliable scooter you can depend on in the long run. Just ensure that you have charge it regularly, and don’t overcharge it as it can ruin the battery’s settings.
XR Ultra’s battery also supports a maximum range of 16 miles for a single charge, which is already high considering that most electric scooters only have 8 to 12 miles range per charge. Usual charge time is approximately 3 to 4 hours.
Console and User Interface
The GoTrax XR is a member of the most user-friendly electric scooters in the market thanks to its interactive and clear console. It displays the scooter’s speed and battery levels accurately, as well as the gear you’re in.
You can also check your scooter’s mileage through the odometer. What converts it into even better is that it’s displayed on a LED screen.
The console is even connected to a headlight which can brightly illuminate your path at nighttime. It might not be the brightest one out there, but it’s still good for an electric scooter as it gives you a few meters of visibility ahead on a dark night.
Not everyone needs or can afford the ultimate electric scooter. But, if you are looking for a capable model that can get you easily around town and have a budget of $400 for an electric scooter, then you’ve got a great deal for your bucks with the GoTrax XR Ultra.
It’s well-designed, built with robust features, and capable of continuing for years with continuous daily commutes. Its controls might be minimal, but they’re fully functional and very useful.
Tested top speed: 15.5 mph Tested range: 9.1miles Weight: 27lbs Max rider weight: 220 lbs Water resistance: IP54 (splash)
